Alsace Jean Geiler 1991
This 1991 white wine is produced by Jean Geiler under the Appellation Alsace Contrôlée. It carries the quality designation Réserve Particulière and was bottled at the property by Les Producteurs Réunis in the Haut-Rhin department of France. The wine is made from Riesling, a classic white grape variety that is frequently cultivated in regions such as Germany, Austria, Washington, and Alsace. In this French region, it is a unique tradition to name the wines after the grape variety rather than the specific village or vineyard.
Alsace is a historic wine region located in northeastern France, situated in a narrow belt on the east-facing slopes of the Vosges mountains down towards the Rhine valley. The area has historically shifted between French and German rule, which has left a lasting mark on its viticulture. The region is divided into two main departments, Bas-Rhin in the north and Haut-Rhin in the south, with the latter traditionally housing many of the most recognized vineyards. The wines from this area are traditionally bottled in the characteristic tall, slender bottle known as a flûte d'Alsace.
The climate in Alsace is semi-continental and heavily influenced by the Vosges mountains, which act as a natural barrier against rain and westerly winds. This rain shadow effect makes Alsace one of the driest and sunniest wine regions in France, providing the grapes with a long and stable growing season. The soil is exceptionally complex and varied due to geological fault lines, offering a mosaic of soil types within short distances, including granite, limestone, schist, clay, gravel, and the local pink sandstone known as grès de Vosges.

Storage
Store the bottle horizontally at 12–14°C and avoid direct sunlight, vibrations, and temperature fluctuations.
Opening
Allow the bottle to stand upright for 24–48 hours before opening to allow sediment to settle. Use a professional corkscrew and open carefully.
Enjoyment
Serve at 17–18°C and be patient – there is a great difference in how and how quickly wines open up when they are aerated.
