Barbaresco Pio Cesare 1967
The 1967 Barbaresco from Pio Cesare originates from the prestigious Piedmont region in northwestern Italy. Literally meaning "at the foot of the mountain," Piedmont is surrounded by the Alps and is globally recognized for its dramatic, steep hills, particularly in the Langhe subregion. Here, the autumn morning fog blankets the vineyards, protecting the grapes and ensuring a long, perfect ripening period. Reflecting these conditions, the 1967 vintage is described as mature and classic, achieving a score of 85 points.
Located east of Alba, Barbaresco is a classic area dedicated entirely to the Nebbiolo grape. The production is primarily centered around the villages of Barbaresco, Neive, Treiso, and San Rocco Seno d’Elvio. Nebbiolo is an Italian top-tier grape variety that forms the foundation of the region's most renowned wines. The area is celebrated for its immense focus on terroir, highlighting how the specific soil and microclimate of the Langhe hills influence the final wine.
Pio Cesare is one of Piedmont's most defining wine estates, deeply rooted in the heart of Alba. Founded in 1881 by Cesare Pio, the estate broke with tradition by choosing to bottle its wine rather than selling it in barrels. The historic wine cellar features walls dating back to the Roman era, around 50 BC. Today, the estate is managed by the fifth generation, Federica Boffa and her cousin Cesare Benvenuto, who continue the legacy of bridging tradition and modernity. In the Barbaresco appellation, the house notably owns Il Bricco in Treiso, one of the highest-altitude vineyards in the area, where cooler temperatures prevail.
Pio Cesare was among the first Italian wine houses to seriously export to the United Kingdom in the 1950s, helping to establish the region's international reputation. The label of this Denominazione di Origine Controllata wine proudly displays historical accolades, including gold and silver medals from exhibitions in Asti, Turin, Alba, and Brussels between 1898 and 1910. Bottled at 13.5% alcohol in a 0.72-liter format, this bottle stands as a testament to the estate's enduring heritage.

Storage
Store the bottle horizontally at 12–14°C and avoid direct sunlight, vibrations, and temperature fluctuations.
Opening
Allow the bottle to stand upright for 24–48 hours before opening to allow sediment to settle. Use a professional corkscrew and open carefully.
Enjoyment
Serve at 17–18°C and be patient – there is a great difference in how and how quickly wines open up when they are aerated.
