Bordeaux Supérieur Château Lafite Montel 1994
Produced in the world's most famous wine region, the Bordeaux Supérieur Château Lafite Monteil 1994 originates from an area that has been exporting wine since the Middle Ages. The 1994 vintage received a score of 82 points and is described as tight and promising. The wine holds the Bordeaux Supérieur appellation, a regional AOC established in 1943 that covers the entire Bordeaux region. This classification demands stricter production rules than the basic Bordeaux AOC, including lower yields, higher minimum alcohol levels, older vines, denser planting, and at least nine months of aging across its approximately 12,400 hectares.
Château Lafite Monteil is located between the Garonne and Dordogne rivers, where the vineyards benefit from slopes composed of clay and limestone soils. The wine is bottled directly at the estate. As part of the production process, the wine is aged in oak barrels. Notably, this specific 1994 release was awarded a silver medal at the Concours Général Agricole in Paris in 1996.
The wine is crafted from a blend of Merlot and Cabernet. Merlot is a classic blue grape widely cultivated in Bordeaux, as well as in California, Washington, and Northern Italy. Cabernet serves as a collective term primarily for Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, which form the backbone of the region's red wines. These thick-skinned, relatively late-ripening varieties are grown globally in areas such as Veneto, Trentino-Alto Adige, California, and Tuscany. In the broader Bordeaux region, Cabernet Sauvignon typically dominates the gravel soils of the left bank of the Gironde, while Merlot and Cabernet Franc are the primary focus on the right bank.

Storage
Store the bottle horizontally at 12–14°C and avoid direct sunlight, vibrations, and temperature fluctuations.
Opening
Allow the bottle to stand upright for 24–48 hours before opening to allow sediment to settle. Use a professional corkscrew and open carefully.
Enjoyment
Serve at 17–18°C and be patient – there is a great difference in how and how quickly wines open up when they are aerated.
