Château de Nervers Brouilly Georges Dubœuf 1987
The 1987 Château de Nervers Brouilly is a French red wine produced by Les Vins Georges Dubœuf. Georges Dubœuf established his trading house in 1964 and subsequently became the most influential individual in modern Beaujolais history, playing a pivotal role in bringing international recognition to the region. Today, following his passing in 2020, the house is managed by his son, Franck Dubœuf. The estate's portfolio covers the entire spectrum of the region, ranging from generic appellations to the esteemed Cru villages. The label of this specific release features artwork signed by P. Albuisson.
This wine originates from Brouilly, the largest and southernmost of the ten Cru appellations in the Beaujolais region, located just south of Burgundy. Granted AOC status in 1938, Brouilly covers approximately 1,250 hectares surrounding the extinct volcano Mont Brouilly. The vineyards here are planted on a diverse mosaic of soil types, including pink granite, limestone, marl, and a specific volcanic diorite locally known as "cornes vertes."
The wine is crafted from Gamay, a classic French grape variety that finds its primary homeland in the granite subsoils of Beaujolais, though it is also cultivated in the Loire Valley. In the Brouilly appellation, Gamay is the dominant grape, thriving in the varied terroir that defines this distinct Cru.
The history of the wine
Below, you can delve into the history of this wine — its producer, grape, area, and region.
Beaujolais
Beaujolais south of Burgundy is the homeland of the Gamay grape. The area became world-famous for the young, fruity Beaujolais Nouveau, but the real quality lies in the ten cru villages such as Morgon and Fleurie. The granite subsoil yields juicy, light red wines with fresh acidity and aromas of red berries, flowers and spice. A classic and incredibly food-friendly French red wine region.
