Château de Monbadon Côtes de Castillon Baron de Montfort 2015
Château de Monbadon Côtes de Castillon 2015 is an organic red wine produced by Baron de Montfort. Classified as an Appellation Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux Contrôlée, this Grand Vin de Bordeaux is estate-bottled and certified organic by Ecocert. The wine's quality was recognized with a Gold medal at the 21st Berliner Wein Trophy in 2017.
The wine originates from Bordeaux, a globally renowned region on the Atlantic coast that has been exporting wine since the Middle Ages. Specifically, it comes from Côtes de Castillon, located in the eastern part of Bordeaux on the right bank of the Dordogne river. Situated immediately east of Saint-Émilion, the area is historically significant as the site of the 1453 battle that ended the Hundred Years' War. Today, it is highly regarded as a quality-oriented neighbor to Saint-Émilion, known for producing structured Right Bank wines.
The local climate is shaped by Atlantic influences, though the distance from the sea makes it slightly warmer and drier than Saint-Émilion. The terroir features well-draining soils composed primarily of limestone and clay on the higher slopes, along with gravel and sand on the river terraces. These conditions are ideal for the area's predominantly planted Merlot, which is typically blended with Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Malbec. The 2015 vintage in this region achieved a score of 96 points and is described as full-bodied and generous.
