Chianti Classico Melini 1953

Founded in 1705 by Adamo Melini in Poggibonsi, Tuscany, Melini stands as one of Italy's oldest wineries in continuous operation. Situated between Florence and Siena, the estate has been a central voice in the historical development of Chianti. A notable contribution to Italian wine culture occurred in 1860 when the house designed the characteristic 'fiasco'—a round bottle encased in a straw basket. This practical design secured the bottles during transport as the railway network began opening distant markets, eventually becoming one of the most recognizable visual symbols of Italian wine worldwide. Today, the estate is owned by Gruppo Italiano Vini, maintaining its deep historical roots and three centuries of continuous production. The wine originates from Chianti Classico, the historic core of Tuscany, an iconic region with viticultural roots tracing back to the Etruscans. This specific area holds its own DOCG classification, famously represented by the black rooster symbol. The 1953 vintage from this region was awarded a score of 81 points, noted for providing good acidity and structure to the wines of the year.Sangiovese is the undisputed main grape of the region and the foundation of this classic red wine, as it must constitute at least 80 percent of any Chianti Classico. While this prominent Italian grape is also cultivated in Umbria, Emilia Romagna, and California, it finds its most traditional expression in the Tuscan hills. Designated as a "Stravecchio" style, the wine is crafted using the centuries-old techniques of Casa Melini. The production involves natural aging in oak barrels within the estate's ancient cellars located in Castellina in Chianti.

Super service and very helpful. Lost one of the bottles during transport and reported it to Bottles With History. It was fixed immediately and a new bottle was sent immediately. (Actually a better wine in my opinion) It is very difficult to guarantee that older bottles are drinkable, like the Barolo from 69 I tried. Anders came to the rescue again and of course sent a new bottle of the same caliber. Thank you very much for the good service, can definitely recommend shopping here in safe hands.
