Côte de Beaune Joseph Drouhin 1997
The 1997 Côte de Beaune is an Appellation Contrôlée wine produced by Joseph Drouhin, one of Burgundy's most renowned estates. Founded in 1880 in the historical heart of Beaune, the house is currently run by the fourth generation of the family. Operating as both a négociant and a major vineyard owner, Joseph Drouhin manages over 80 hectares of land stretching from Chablis in the north to the Mâconnais in the south. The estate has been a quiet but consistent pioneer of organic and biodynamic viticulture in a region where traditional practices have long prevailed. Bottled at 12.5% alcohol, this specific release is an estate-harvested wine, bearing the "Récolte du Domaine" designation.
The wine originates from the Côte de Beaune, which forms the southern half of the famous Côte d'Or in eastern France. Stretching approximately 25 kilometers from Ladoix-Serrigny to Maranges, the area is characterized by a continental climate with warm summers and cold winters. The east-facing slopes benefit from the morning sun, while the soils consist of a complex mix of limestone, clay, and marl deposits dating back to the Jurassic period. This intricate terroir was originally mapped by medieval monks, leading to Burgundy's highly granular classification system of climats. The region is globally recognized for its cultivation of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The 1997 vintage in this area received a score of 86 points and is described as charming, but quickly developed.
Beyond its extensive holdings in France, Joseph Drouhin has expanded its expertise internationally. Since 1987, the family has operated Domaine Drouhin in Oregon's Willamette Valley, applying their extensive Burgundian experience to one of the most serious French-American wine projects. Whether producing from their historic cellars in Beaune or their American estate, the family maintains an exacting commitment to tradition, authenticity, and a clear expression of origin.

Storage
Store the bottle horizontally at 12–14°C and avoid direct sunlight, vibrations, and temperature fluctuations.
Opening
Allow the bottle to stand upright for 24–48 hours before opening to allow sediment to settle. Use a professional corkscrew and open carefully.
Enjoyment
Serve at 17–18°C and be patient – there is a great difference in how and how quickly wines open up when they are aerated.
