The 1964 Margaux Château Montbrun is a classic red wine originating from the renowned Bordeaux region in France. Situated on the Atlantic coast, Bordeaux has been a prominent exporter of wine since the Middle Ages, with its Left Bank characterized by gravel soils where Cabernet Sauvignon thrives. Within the southern part of the Médoc lies Margaux, one of the most famous commune appellations in the region. The 1964 vintage from this area achieved a score of 88 points and is described as mature and charming.
Château Montbrun is a historic estate located in Cantenac, within the Margaux appellation. The property is closely tied to the Lebègue family of wine merchants, whose name frequently appears on older labels. The history of J. Lebègue & Cie in Cantenac gained momentum in 1870 when Jules Lebègue returned to Bordeaux to expand the family business. He met Jules Jadouin, who had been operating as a négociant in Cantenac since 1828. After marrying Jadouin's daughter, Marthe, the couple settled at Château Montbrun. The father-in-law's business subsequently transitioned to the name Jules Lebègue, establishing the family as a significant player in the Médoc with a comprehensive export operation.
Produced under the official Appellation Margaux Contrôlée, the wines of Château Montbrun have historically held the Cru Bourgeois classification. Following the tradition of the Margaux area, the wine is crafted as a classic Bordeaux blend, primarily dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon in combination with Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. This specific bottle carries the "Grand Vin" designation and was imported by & Sommerfeldt A/S in Copenhagen, a distinguished Purveyor to the Royal Danish Court.

Store the bottle horizontally at 12–14°C and avoid direct sunlight, vibrations, and temperature fluctuations.
Opening
Allow the bottle to stand upright for 24–48 hours before opening to allow sediment to settle. Use a professional corkscrew and open carefully.
