Meursault Francois Mikulski 1996
The Meursault François Mikulski 1996 is a white wine produced under the Appellation Contrôlée classification and bottled directly at the estate. Domaine François Mikulski is a Meursault-based family winery with a unique origin story. The founder, François Mikulski, is of French-Polish descent, born to a Polish father and a mother from the Boillot family, one of the central lineages in the wine history of Meursault. He inherited his vineyards from his grandfather, Claude Boillot, and his uncle was Pierre Boillot. François released his first vintage under his own name in 1991 and 1992, and today he runs the estate alongside his wife, Marie-Pierre.
The domain spans eight to nine hectares distributed across Meursault and Volnay, encompassing an impressive array of Premier Crus. From the Meursault side, the holdings include Goutte d'Or, Genevrières, Charmes, Porusots, and Perrières, representing nearly the entire palette of the area's top crus. The Volnay parcels include Santenots-du-Milieu, one of the most sought-after Premier Crus in that appellation. The winery operates with a focus on lutte raisonnée and an organic approach to viticulture.
This wine originates from Bourgogne in eastern France, a region shaped by medieval monks who meticulously mapped the countless terroirs. Stretching from Chablis in the north to the Côte d'Or and Mâconnais in the south, the limestone soils are dedicated almost exclusively to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Meursault, located in the Côte de Beaune, is one of the most famous appellations for Chardonnay in Bourgogne. While the area has no Grand Cru vineyards, it is home to many highly regarded Premier Crus. Chardonnay is one of the world's most recognized white grapes, frequently grown in regions like Bourgogne, Champagne, California, and Oregon. The 1996 vintage in this area is characterized as being acid-driven and has been awarded a score of 91 points.
