Pauillac Grand Cru Classé en 1855 Château Croizet-Bages 1985
Château Croizet-Bages was founded in the 17th century by the Croizet brothers and is located in the Bages quarter of Pauillac. The estate was classified as a Fifth Growth, or 5e Cru Classé, in the historic 1855 classification system. Since 1942, when Paul Quié purchased the château, the property has been in the hands of the Quié family. Today, it is managed by the fourth generation, Jean-Philippe and Anne-Françoise Quié, alongside their father Jean-Michel. The family's portfolio also includes Château Rauzan-Gassies in Margaux and Château Bel-Orme-Tronquoy-de-Lalande, giving them a strong presence across the Left Bank.
The estate's 28 to 30 hectares of vineyards are situated in Pauillac, a prestigious appellation within the Haut-Médoc area of Bordeaux. Located near the Gironde estuary, the region is characterized by its gravelly soils, which provide ideal conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon, the dominant grape variety in these classic Left Bank blends. Pauillac is renowned as a benchmark for Bordeaux and is home to three of the five First Growths from the 1855 classification. The 1985 vintage from this area achieved a score of 90 points and is described as soft and elegant.
This 1985 French red wine is an Appellation Pauillac Contrôlée. It was produced under the ownership of Paul Quié and bottled directly at the estate, as indicated by the "Mise en Bouteilles du Chateau" designation. The wine is presented in a 750 ml bottle and has an alcohol content of 12%.
