Pinot Noir Montes 2000

The Pinot Noir Montes 2000 is a Chilean red wine produced by Montes S.A. Named after winemaker and partner Aurelio Montes, the estate is known for exploring new areas and varietals. This specific vintage is part of the Montes Special Selection series and was produced in very limited numbers. It also marks the producer's first wine sourced from outside their traditional wine regions. The grapes for this wine come from the Casablanca Valley. Pinot Noir is an elegant blue grape traditionally associated with regions such as Burgundy, Champagne, Germany, Oregon, and California. The vinification of Pinot Noir is widely considered to be highly demanding; in fact, previous attempts by the estate were discarded before achieving this release, giving the winemaker a full understanding of the grape's challenging nature.During the production process, the wine underwent a single soft filtering. It was subsequently aged in French oak barrels for eight months before being bottled at 13.5% alcohol by volume.

Casablanca Valley

About the region

Casablanca Valley is a prominent Chilean wine region located in the central part of the country, approximately midway between the capital Santiago and the port city of Valparaíso. The valley stretches from east to west and opens directly towards the Pacific Ocean, which gives the area a unique geographical location compared to many of Chile's more traditional, inland-based wine regions.

The climate is strongly characterized by the maritime influence from the nearby ocean and the cold Humboldt Current. The region is known for its cool morning fogs and fresh sea breezes, which significantly lower the average temperature. This creates a cool Mediterranean climate with a large temperature difference between night and day, which gives the grapes a long and slow ripening period.

Although Chile's wine history goes back centuries, Casablanca Valley is a relatively young wine region, where the first commercial vines were planted in the early 1980s. The area acted as a pioneer for the country's cool-climate wines and is today particularly recognized for its white wines as well as light red wines. The region's conditions are ideal for grape varieties such as Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, which thrive in the cooler environment.

Super service and very helpful. Lost one of the bottles during transport and reported it to Bottles With History. It was fixed immediately and a new bottle was sent immediately. (Actually a better wine in my opinion) It is very difficult to guarantee that older bottles are drinkable, like the Barolo from 69 I tried. Anders came to the rescue again and of course sent a new bottle of the same caliber. Thank you very much for the good service, can definitely recommend shopping here in safe hands.
