Saint Julien Grand Cru Classé Château Gruaud Larose 1983
Bordeaux, located on the Atlantic coast, is the world's most famous wine region, having exported wine since the Middle Ages. Within the Haut-Médoc, situated between Margaux and Pauillac, lies the small but highly consistent appellation of Saint-Julien. The 1983 vintage from this area is described as mature and classic, achieving a score of 86 points. The wines from the Left Bank of the Gironde are traditionally Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated blends grown on gravel soils, representing a classic character.
Château Gruaud Larose was founded in 1725 by Abbé Joseph Stanislas Gruaud. The estate's name eventually encompassed both his lineage and that of his son-in-law, Chevalier de Larose. The château holds a prestigious position as one of the four estates in Saint-Julien classified as a 2e Cru Classé in the legendary 1855 classification. The property spans 82 hectares, dedicated to producing a Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated blend. The estate proudly carries the motto "Le roi des vins, le vin des rois," which translates to "the king of wines, the wine of kings."
The ownership history of the château has seen several changes over the centuries. The Cordier family took over the estate in 1917 and maintained ownership until 1983, making this particular vintage one of the last produced under their proprietorship, as evidenced by the signature of D. Cordier on the label. Following 1983, the estate passed through institutional owners before being acquired by the Merlaut family in 1997, who are also known for other Bordeaux estates like Citran and Haut-Bages Libéral. This Grand Cru Classé red wine was bottled directly at the château in France and originally carried a strict export restriction.

Storage
Store the bottle horizontally at 12–14°C and avoid direct sunlight, vibrations, and temperature fluctuations.
Opening
Allow the bottle to stand upright for 24–48 hours before opening to allow sediment to settle. Use a professional corkscrew and open carefully.
Enjoyment
Serve at 17–18°C and be patient – there is a great difference in how and how quickly wines open up when they are aerated.
