Savigny-lès-Beaune Arthur Barolet et Fils 1997
This 1997 Savigny-lès-Beaune is a red wine produced by Arthur Barolet et Fils. Raised and bottled by the estate, this specific release was selected in 2000 by the Jurés-Gourmets of the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin, earning the Tastevinage award.
The wine originates from Burgundy in eastern France, a region historically shaped by medieval monks who meticulously mapped its countless terroirs and established a fine-meshed system of climats. Within the Côte de Beaune lies the Savigny-lès-Beaune AOC, situated just north of the town of Beaune at the entrance to the picturesque Rhoin valley. The 1997 vintage in this area achieved a score of 86 points and is described as charming, but quickly developed.
Granted AOC status in 1937, Savigny-lès-Beaune covers approximately 350 hectares, making it one of the largest communal appellations in the Côte de Beaune. The continental climate brings warm summers and cold winters to a distinctive topography. A side valley between Beaune and Aloxe-Corton creates two main exposures: south-facing slopes north of the village and southeast-facing slopes to the south. The soils consist of varying depths of clay and chalk over a limestone bedrock, an environment admirably suited to Pinot Noir. This elegant blue grape is widely cultivated in Burgundy, as well as in Champagne, Germany, Oregon, and California, and accounts for about 90 percent of the plantings in this specific appellation.

Burgundy
Burgundy in eastern France was shaped by medieval monks who mapped the area's countless terroirs. The region grows almost exclusively Pinot Noir and Chardonnay and has turned terroir into an art form with its finely meshed system of climats. From Chablis in the north to the Côte d'Or and Mâconnais in the south, the limestone soil yields some of the world's most sought-after and elegant wines.
