Aux Fournaux Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru 1999
The 1999 Aux Fournaux Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru is an estate-bottled wine, harvested and produced by Jean-Michel GIBOULOT. This release comes from a top vintage characterized by great finesse and depth, which has achieved a score of 95 points.
Located in eastern France, the Burgundy region was historically shaped by medieval monks who meticulously mapped its countless terroirs. The wine originates from Savigny-lès-Beaune, a municipal AOC in the Côte de Beaune situated just north of the town of Beaune. Granted its appellation status in 1937, the area covers approximately 350 hectares of vineyards, making it one of the largest municipal appellations in the Côte de Beaune.
The local continental climate features warm summers and cold winters. Savigny-lès-Beaune is defined by its distinctive topography, featuring a side valley between Beaune and Aloxe-Corton that creates different vineyard exposures. The soils consist of chalk and clay over a limestone bedrock of varying depths. Aux Fournaux is classified as one of the 22 Premier Crus in this appellation. In this specific area, red wines are predominantly crafted from Pinot Noir, which accounts for about 90 percent of the plantings.
