Sicilia Inycon Estate 2007
The 2007 Sicilia Inycon Estate is an organic red wine produced by Inycon Estate, situated along the unspoiled coast of southwest Sicily. The estate relies on the collaboration of generations of farming families, including growers like Filippo Buttafuoco, who work together to cultivate the vineyards and preserve the historic local community. The wine is bottled by Cantine Settesoli.
This wine is made from organically grown Syrah, a blue grape variety that is also known as Shiraz. While Syrah is widely cultivated and typically associated with regions such as the Rhône Valley, Australia, California, and Washington, it has also gained significant recognition in the Sicilian terroir alongside the island's indigenous varieties.
Sicily is the largest island in the Mediterranean and Italy's southernmost wine region. It has evolved from a historical focus on bulk wine into one of the country's most dynamic wine landscapes. The island is characterized by three distinct climates: the hot southern coast, the mountainous interior, and the active volcano Mount Etna in the east. The overarching Mediterranean climate provides abundant sunshine, warm, dry summers, and mild winters. Constant coastal winds and the mountainous terrain play a crucial role in moderating the heat in the vineyards, creating ideal conditions for viticulture and contributing to a long growing season.
The soils across Sicily are highly varied, reflecting a complex geology that ranges from dark, mineral-rich volcanic earth to calcareous, clay, and sand-based soils in the western and central areas. This 2007 vintage was bottled under the regional Sicilia IGT (Indicazione Geografica Tipica) classification, a designation that historically gave producers significant freedom in their choice of grape varieties and production methods before the area was elevated to DOC status in 2011.
The history of the wine
Below, you can delve into the history of this wine — its producer, grape, area, and region.
Sicily
Sicily has gone from being a "wine lake" of bulk wine to becoming one of Italy's most exciting regions. Geographically, the island is characterized by three very different climates: the burning hot coast in the south, the mountainous heights in the interior, and not least the active volcano
Etna in the east, where "volcanic wines" have become a global trend.
