Toknar Panquehue Viña von Siebenthal 2005
The 2005 Toknar is an Estate Bottled Single Vineyard red wine produced by Viña von Siebenthal. The winery's philosophy centers on crafting wines that eloquently express the extraordinary characteristics of their local terroir. This vintage is made entirely from Petit Verdot, a powerful dark grape traditionally utilized for its deep color and structure in regions like Bordeaux, California, and Spain. During production, the grapes were carefully hand-picked, and the final wine was bottled unfiltered.
The grapes for this wine originate from Panquehue, an official wine appellation (D.O.) situated in the inner part of the Aconcagua Valley, approximately 80 kilometers north of Santiago. Stretching along the Aconcagua River, which rises in the Andes, Panquehue is the historical center of viticulture in the region, dating back to the 1870s when the first French vines were planted. The climate here is warm and dry, making it one of the warmest sub-areas in the valley. However, the intense sun and high daytime temperatures are moderated by cool winds from both the Pacific Ocean and the snow-capped Andes, creating significant temperature fluctuations between day and night. The vineyards are planted on well-drained, stony deposits and clay soils in the lower-lying areas, often irrigated with fresh meltwater from the mountains.
Panquehue is a key part of the broader Aconcagua Valley, a renowned Chilean D.O. that spans from the Andes Mountains in the east to the Pacific Ocean in the west. The region features a Mediterranean climate with substantial diurnal temperature shifts and a diverse soil profile ranging from alluvial gravel and sand to limestone and clay. The Aconcagua Valley is widely recognized as the home of some of Chile's most iconic wineries and is particularly celebrated for producing high-quality red wines from its warmer inland zones.

Aconcagua Valley
Aconcagua Valley lies in central Chile about 100 kilometres north of Santiago and stretches from the Andes in the east to the Pacific Ocean in the west. The area is an official Chilean DO and is especially known for its powerful red wines from the warmer inland zones and fresh white wines from the cool coastal zones such as Aconcagua Costa.
The climate is Mediterranean with warm days, cool nights and significant diurnal temperature swings, and the soils range from alluvial gravel and sand to limestone and clay. The wines are made mainly from Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenère, Syrah and Sauvignon Blanc, and the style is typically full-bodied and structured with ripe dark berries, plum, pepper, spices and firm tannins. The area is known as home to some of Chile's most iconic wineries and quality-focused red wines.

Storage
Store the bottle horizontally at 12–14°C and avoid direct sunlight, vibrations, and temperature fluctuations.
Opening
Allow the bottle to stand upright for 24–48 hours before opening to allow sediment to settle. Use a professional corkscrew and open carefully.
Enjoyment
Serve at 17–18°C and be patient – there is a great difference in how and how quickly wines open up when they are aerated.
